About us
Hard to imagine that the land on which the Biosphäre Potsdam is located today was formerly a military area. Especially for the Federal Horticultural Show 2001, the former military training ground was dug up, planted, remodeled. After the federal horticultural show it was renamed the Volkspark Potsdam.
The building which was used during the federal horticultural show went under construction and opened as a tropical garden named “Biosphäre Potsdam” on 14 September 2002.
More than 150 trees were ordered and shipped to Germany from various arboriculture farms in Florida, southern Europe and New Zealand. Due to the right heating and watering, the plants can unfold their full splendor in our latitudes.
The Biosphäre Potsdam is an important venue with changing special exhibitions and guided tours on the topic of rainforest. The Biosphäre Potsdam is the ideal place to get to know the rainforest outside the classroom.
